About College

MAHILA VIDYAPEETH, Hubli was founded in 1934 in the name of Harijan Balikashram by Padmashree Sardar Veerangouda Patil Ex-M.L.A. And his wife Smt. Nagamma Patil Ex-M.L.A.(a first lady M.L.A. from Bombay-Karnataka). Sardar Veerangouda Patil was a veteran leader of the Freedom Movement in Karnataka. He was an eminent Gandhian and constructive worker who rendered yeoman service to the emanicipation of Harijans for the cause of education of Women folk. His dedicated service and sacrifice not only in the field of freedom struggle and also in the field of upliftment of Harijans and education are laudable. 

With an object of promoting the cause of education, he started his career as a Life Member of Karnataka Lingayat Education Society, Belgaum (K.L.E Society) which is now one of the biggest educational organisations in Asia. He was one of the seven Founder Members of K.L.E Society.

This Primary teachers’ Training College for Women was started in 1949. Sant Vinoba Bhave named it as “Akkamahadevi Basic Training College” during his stay in this institution in 1961 while inauguration its own magnificent building. This Training College is one of the oldest ladies institutions in Karnataka. This institution has all infrastructure facilities and has beautiful playgrounds and gardens. The Management has provided the hostel facilities for the ladies coming from rural areas and provided the Audio Visual equipments and indoor, outdoo games facilities.
 
Nowadays every year more than 200 D.Ed. Trainees are being trained. Highly Qualified and experienced staff are taking care of this institution. ‘golden Jublee Year’ was celebrated by inviting Smt. Rama Devi – the then Governor of Karnataka on 12-12-2000.
